By law, Delaware Lottery generates income for the state's General Fund. The General Fund is a pool of money that finances a wide variety of state services.

  • Revenue generated for General Fund since 1975: more than $3 billion.
  • Revenue generated for General Fund for FY ending June 2009: $248 million.
Legacy
  • Law establishing the Delaware State Lottery was signed on May 31, 1974.
  • First Lottery games introduced in 1975.
  • First daily numbers game, PLAY 3, introduced in 1978; LOTTO game added in 1983.
  • Teamed up with other states to introduce the multistate POWERBALL® game in 1992.
  • Video Lottery machines introduced at three racetracks in 1995 and 1996.
  • Launched multi-state HOT LOTTO® game in 2008.
  • Introduced Sports Lottery at three racetracks in the state in September 2009.
  • Added FAST PLAY®, an instant win style game from the terminal, in 2009.
  • Began to offer MEGA MILLIONS® multi-state game in January 2010.
